Education
Curriculum
The Poet Populist program, at heart, is a community arts and education program. We aim to provide a practical application in art and democracy, and teach people about it as well. To this end we have developed “Democracy and the Arts,” a curriculum that meets national education standards. It will be presented in numerous Seattle high schools in 2008 and 2009. For more information or a copy of the curriculum please drop us a line at info@poetpopulist.org
Seattle Writes
Seattle’s 2009 Poet Populist Mike Hickey has conceived of the Seattle Writes program, which invites every Seattle citizen young and old to write a poem—this year, on the theme of NEIGHBORS.
For teachers, Mike has written some lesson plans to integrate the program with classroom writing exercises. Get the Seattle Writes Lesson Plans, which are free to use.
